Most of my friends are addicted to Snapchat. A couple of weeks ago I‘ve created an account too and tried the app, but it did not involve me so badly. I prefer using other social networks and messaging apps, so I would like to know if it‘s possible to delete Snapchat‘s account permanently? Thanks!

Snapchat is a social app launched in 2011 by Snap Inc. It supports iPhone and Android smartphones and works messaging platform and social media in tandem. Through the past six years, this mobile application has been gaining its popularity and now is considered to be one of the most popular apps all around the world. In comparison to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other popular social networks, Snapchat can be described by words like „momentary“ or „spontaneity.“ Everything people post or send on Snapchat lasts for a defined period, for example, from 10sec. The app allows adding contacts, sending photos, videos (up to 10 seconds), adding captions, filters, and other features that all end up with creating a Snap (a finished creation shared with the world or the followers) or a Story (24-hour collection of all user’s snaps).  This involving mobile app even has its “vocabulary,” which includes Snapchat-related terms, for example, Snapback, Scores, Story, Snapcode, Snapstreak, Lenses, Feed, Snap Cash, and many others.

According to the statistics conducted by Digital Marketing Ramblings (DMR), at the beginning of 2017, Snapchat had 158 million active daily users who are sending 2.5 billion snaps per day. While the app hasn’t been specifically directed to a particular range of people, the majority of Snapchat users are teenagers and young adults. With the emergence and a quick evolving of Snapchat’s popularity, online forums get more and more posts from concerned parents who doubt about the safety of this application. Most of them agree upon the fact that it’s difficult to track their kids’ activity when every photo and video disappear after several seconds. However, that’s how this app works, and there is nothing dangerous about the app itself. If, however, you don’t trust your kid, your family should decide carefully whether to allow him/her to get involved in social networks. If you are one of those suspicious parents or if you feed up using Snapchat, you can easily remove the app and its account permanently.

How to delete the Snapchat account?

• Launch your web browser and go to https://support.snapchat.com/delete-account.
• Enter your Snapchat username and password.
• Confirm that you are not a robot and tap Submit.
• On the next page, type your Snapchat username and password once again.
• Tap Continue.

Once you perform these steps, the account will be deactivated, which means that you will not be able to send/receive snaps or log-in to your account. After 30 days, the Snapchat account will be deleted permanently. In case you would change your mind, you can reactivate the account within the 30 days of deactivation. For this purpose, you should:

• Open Snapchat and Log in to your account.
• Tap Yes and OK to confirm that you want to reactivate your account.
• Snapchat will inform you with an email when the account will be reactivated.
