I created Pinterest account a long time ago, but I did not get used to it up till now. However, I’ve to keep getting email messages to the Gmail, which is annoying. Could you please provide a tutorial on how to delete my Pinterest account permanently?

Pinterest is one of the most popular social network, which has more than 10 million monthly unique visits. It works as a pinboard-style platform, which allows people to save images and videos (from 2016) on different boards classified by categories. The developers of the site introduce it as "The world’s catalog of ideas. Find and save recipes, parenting hacks, style inspiration and other ideas to try." In other words, this social networking and research site enables people to save various ideas corresponding to their interest, such as family, home décor, technologies, cooking, auto-sports or any other. Pinterest allows people to follow friends, celebs or even other networks. The newest Pinterest feature is a “Buy’ button, which appears right on pins of products sold by some retailers.

The site was developed in December 2009 as a closed beta, meaning that the only way to sign to it is to get an invitation. If you haven’t created an account yet, you will have to navigate to Pinterest.com website and enter your email address in the Invite form. Then you’ll have to wait until Pinterest sends you an invitation. Once you sign into Pinterest, you’ll be able to set up your preferences, add things to your board, discover new things, interact and follow other friends, and so on. In a nutshell, this social network has a handful of advantages and is highly involving.

Disable your pinterest account

However, there are many personal reasons due to which people decide to close a Pinterest account. Whatever reason is yours, the account can be both deactivated and removed. If you are not 100% sure that you want to delete all your boards, you can disable the account temporarily (for 14 days). If you would decide that you want to keep going with Pinterest, you can do that easily if the 14 days did not pass yet.

  • Open Pinterest.com.
  • Sign in to your account using your email address and password.
  • Now you should receive a link clicking on which will confirm your choice to reactivate the account.

How to delete your Pinterest account?

  • Log in to Pinterest and click the Profile button at the top of the page.
  • Click on bolt button and select "Deactivate Account" at the bottom of "Account Basics".
  • Select "Permanently close my account" and confirm your choice.
  • Click "Yes" in the confirmation window and close the account.

Once you perform these steps, the Pinterest account with all the Pins and boards is deactivated. However, it will be kept frozen for days, so if you would change your mind, you should log in to Pinterest using your current email and password.

How to deactivate the Pinterest account of your family member?

It’s a sad reality that unexpected things happen and people pass away every day. The death of a family member, relative or a friend is a sorrowful experienced, and we wish that nobody would have to realize such a pain. If, however, you lost somebody and want to deactivate his/her account, you can do that easily if you have a document, such as birth or marriage certificate, to verify your relationship with the person who passed away. Send an email to [email protected] with the following information included:

  • Your full name
  • The full name and email address of the person whose account you want to deactivate
  • Add a link to his/her Pinterest account
  • A copy of the person’s death certification, obituary, new article or another source that would prove his/her death
  • Add a documentation proving your and the person’s relationship

Bottom line

To delete your Pinterest account, you can either deactivate it temporarily for 14 days or proceed with permanent removal. If you choose to deactivate, you can reactivate your account within the 14 days if you change your mind. If neither option works for you, consider adjusting your notification settings or reaching out to Pinterest support for further assistance.
