Method 1. Uncheck iPv6 and use the iPv4 network

If the Internet connection is smooth, there might be issues with servers’ connection. Therefore, you can disable iPv6 protocol and us iPv4 network instead:

1. Click Windows + X keys and choose Network connections from the menu.
2. Right-click on the connection you use and choose Properties.
3. In This connection uses the following items box, uncheck the iPv6 box.
   

   

4. Click OK to save the changes.
5. Open Windows updates and try installing them again.

If this method did not help to fix 0x8024401c error, try the following method.

Method 2. Update drivers

1. Click the Start button and enter Device Manager in the Windows search box.
2. Open the Device Manager and check the drivers that might be outdated.
3. Right-click the driver and choose Update Driver Software option.

Method 3. Run SFC scan

Method 4. Modify Windows Registry

1. Click Windows key + R to open Run dialog box.
2. Type regedit and click OK.
3. You will end up in Windows Registry. Navigate to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Policies > Microsoft > Windows > WindowsUpdate
4. In WindowsUpdate, click AU.
5. In AU folder find UseWUServer and change its value data to 0.
   

   

6. Click OK to save the changes.
7. Restart the computer and check if it helped to fix error code 0x8024401c.

Method 5. Perform a clean boot

If you tried all four methods and 0x8024401c error still bothers you, this is your last chance to solve the problem. You have to clean boot Windows by following these steps:

1. Click Windows key + R and type msconfig in the Run box.
2. Click OK.
3. In the System Configuration window, go to Services tab.
4. At the end of the tab, you will see Hide all Microsoft services option. Put the tick in the box next to this entry.
5. Click Disable all button and then OK.
   

   

6. Restart the computer and try to install available Windows updates.
