Hi, I have a problem with Microsoft Store. Namely, I can't download any apps at all and instead receive the 0x80072F8F error every time I try. This has been going on for quite a few weeks now, and it's getting more frustrating. I was thinking of reinstalling Windows 10, but it would be a pain for me, as I am not that tech-savvy. Any help would be appreciated.

Windows Store, recently known as Microsoft Store, was first introduced as early as 2012 and was a great change overall.[ref en-3] It allows users to access millions of apps from their own PCs and ensures the integrity of those apps, making a tremendous positive impact on security.

Unfortunately, just like any other component within the operating system, the Store does not always function as intended, and errors occur. In most cases, users experience the error 0x80072F8F when trying to download or update any existing apps on Windows. It goes without saying that the issue might be very annoying and also serve as a security hazard due to software vulnerabilities that could otherwise be patched.

There is no explanation for why the error occurred or how to fix it, and many users don't even know where to start. Luckily, there are several methods that would help fix it, and we provide multiple of those below. For example, running Windows Store Apps troubleshooter might automatically fix the error for you; in some cases, the measures could be a bit more drastic - reinstalling the Store, or even Windows might be required.

Windows Store errors are something quite common - we have previously talked about similar errors, such as 0x80240438, 0x803fb005, or 0x80073CF3. Below you will find some easy fixes, while others might take a little bit more time to execute.

Method 1. Try general fixes

1. In some cases, the communication between you and Microsoft servers might be blocked by third-party antivirus software. Therefore, we recommend you temporarily disable or uninstall the app and see if the issue continues. The same principle applies to any third-party firewalls, VPN software,[ref en-2] or anything else that impacts connectivity.
2. Reboot your computer if you haven't yet.
3. Ensure your time and date settings are correct. Right-click the time on your taskbar and select Adjust date/time. Make sure the Set time automatically option is ticked, and then click Sync now below.
4.  Scan your system for malware,[ref en-1] as it is a common reason why users face various errors when trying to use Windows.
5. Try fixing the error automatically with [d1]. It can locate and replace damaged system components, fixing the underlying Windows issues in the process.

Method 2. Run Windows Store Apps troubleshooter

• Type Troubleshoot in Windows search and hit Enter
• In the new window, on the right side, click Additional troubleshooters
• Scroll down to find the Windows Store Apps entry
• Select it and click Run the troubleshooter

  

• Apply the suggested fixes.

Method 3. Install all the pending updates

Users said they managed to fix the 0x80072F8F error in Microsoft Store after installing all the pending updates. Follow these steps:

• Type Updates in Windows search and press Enter
• Here, you might see optional updates pending - click Download and install

  

• Wait till everything is installed and restart your system
• Try using MS Store once again.

Method 3. Fix internet connectivity issues

If there's a problem with your internet stability, an error might occur. Try resetting your internet and see if that helps:

• Type cmd in Windows search and hit Enter
• When User Account Control shows up, click Yes
• Copy and paste each of the following commands, pressing Enter every time:
  ipconfig /flushdns
  ipconfig /registerdns
  ipconfig /release
  ipconfig /renew
  netsh winsock reset

  

Method 4. Reset Microsoft Store cache

Clearing bugged store cache might help you solve the issue.

• In Windows search, type wsreset and press Enter
• Wait till a black window shows up – do not close it

  

• Once it's gone Microsoft Store should restart
• Try using the Store once again and check whether you'll get the error.

Method 5. Reset Microsoft Store

If the above method did not help, resetting the Store fully might be more effective. Doing so is relatively easy - just access the Apps & Features section as explained below:

• Right-click on Start and pick Apps & Features
• Scroll down to locate Microsoft Store and click Advanced options
• Click Terminate and Reset.

  

Note: you can instead try repairing the store in the Repair option below Reset.

Method 6. Reinstall Microsoft Store through PowerShell

• Right-click on Start and pick PowerShell (Admin)
• If UAC shows up, click Yes
• In the new window, paste in the following command and hit Enter:
  Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\\AppXManifest.xml”}
• Restart the PC.

  

Method 7. Reinstall Windows

If none of the methods above helped you fix the issue, we recommend you reinstall the system. Before proceeding, disconnect all the peripherals (printers, cameras, scanners, etc.) apart from the mouse and keyboard. Also, you might want to make a copy of your personal files just in case.

• Download the Windows installation media from the official Microsoft website
• Double-click the installer to initiate the process
• Agree to terms
• Pick Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD or ISO file) for another PC option and click Nex
• Select the Use Recommended options for this PC checkbox and click Next
• Choose ISO file and click Next

  

• After downloading the ISO file, right-click it and select Mount, and double-click the Setup.exe
• Accept the license once again
• Select Keep my personal files and click Install.
