Hello, I have recently received a call from an unknown number. The lady said that she's from Microsoft support and that they need to access my computer because they detected suspicious activity on it. They asked me to install a program called UltraViewer, so I did. But later, when I was asked to pay $300, I realized that this call is likely to be fake, so I dropped it. Now I have this UltraViewer on my PC, and I don't know if it is safe or not. Any help with what to do now?

UltraViewer, developed by DucFabulous Co,ltd, is a remote control support software and has many legitimate uses - it allows users to connect to other computers remotely and is used as an alternative to popular tools such as TeamViewer. The application is generally distributed as freeware, meaning the base use is free to end-users. 

However, some users implied that its usage is indeed limited, and, if too many computers are connected to remotely, the software immediately assumes that it is used commercially. Users were dissatisfied by this aspect and claimed that developers use false advertising, as it is not actually free.[ref en-1]

When it comes to app usability, UltraViewer works on all Windows versions, starting from XP. It also offers the following features:

• Safe remote control
• Chat window
• File sharing
• Multi-computer connectivity.

In most cases, users download the app from its official website, although it might also show up on a computer within a software bundle downloaded from a third-party source. While this delivery method is commonly used for potentially unwanted program distribution, many legitimate apps also use it. Thus, if you found the app on your computer seemingly out of nowhere, simply uninstall UltraViewer without thinking twice.

Possibly the most dangerous feature of this app is its functionality, or rather its misuse. If it gets into the wrong hands, it can be used for various malicious purposes, such as planting malware or stealing personal user files. Shut down program's process

• Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager
• Click on More details
• Right-click on all the running processes and select End Task.

  

Option 1. Uninstall UltraViewer via Control Panel

• Type in Control Panel in Windows search bar and hit Enter
• Go to Programs > Uninstall a program
• From the list, find UltraViewer

  

• Right-click on it and select Uninstall.

Option 2. Remove program via Apps

• Right-click on Start and pick Settings
• Go to Apps

  

• In the Apps & Features section, scroll down to find UltraViewer
• Hit Uninstall and then confirm with Uninstall.

  

Option 3. Use the unins000.exe file

• Go to the following location:

  C:\\Program Files (x86)\\UltraViewer

• From the list, locate unins000.exe and double-click it

  

• Continue with on-screen instructions.

Delete leftover files

If, after you uninstall the program, the pop-up shows up saying that not all components were removed. Hence, you need to eliminate them manually.

• Go to the following location:

  C:\\Program Files (x86)\\

• Click on UltraViewer folder once
• While holding Shift on your keyboard, press Delete/Del
• Confirm with Yes
• Finally, press Continue.

  

Optional: Clean Windows registry

Before you do anything with the registry, you should first back it up.

• Type in regedit in Windows search and press Enter
• When User Account Control shows up, click Yes
• Go to File > Export…
• Pick a location for your backup, and then click Save.

  

Once backup is ready, you can proceed with removing related registries.

• Open Registry Editor once again
• Press Ctrl + F on your keyboard
• Type in in UltraViewer the search box and click Find Next
• Delete the UltraViewer entries by right-clicking and pressing Delete
• To find next entries, you can press F3 on your keyboard.

• If you did financial transactions, you should contact your bank and explain the situation - these might be reverted;
• Monitor your online banking activity to avoid unsolicited transactions just in case;
• Change all your passwords - this is especially important if you reuse passwords (you should never do that).
