Before you proceed with opening a .zip file from the internet, you need to make sure it is safe and contains no malware. For that reason, you should first employ anti-malware software and use it to scan the file in question.
Once done, you can do the following:
1. Reinstall your archiver software. There are several tools you can use to compress and decompress zip files. Thus, if you are using WinRar, go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program and locate the software. Remove it by right-clicking on it and selecting Uninstall. Once done, you can download the client anew and install it again.
2. Try using different software. If you are using WinRar, try 7zip or WinZip.
3. If the file you are trying to zip is larger than 4GB, only specific software will be able to compress it (7zip).
4. If the file is corrupted, you can use various free tools for repair of such files - WinRar, Zip2Fix, Object Fix Zip, etc.
