I hate when trying to open any PDF file ends up opening Microsoft Edge. Is it possible to change open PDF files using another PDF application? I have PDF viewer installed, but Microsoft Edge is set to open PDF files by default.
Windows XP, 7, 8, 8.1, and Vista required the installation of a PDF Viewer. With the Windows 10, people no longer face the problem with the opening of PDF files because Microsoft Edge has been transformed into a default PDF viewer application. Consequently, even if Microsoft Edge is not set as your default web browser, it will be launched by default whenever you click on a PDF file or link redirecting to a website that contains PDF format window or file. Such Microsoft’s decision is praised by many Windows 10 users as they don’t need third-party tools to open PDF files, especially when it’s urgent to do so. However, people often claim that it’s more than irritating to experience redirects to Microsoft Edge whenever clicking on a PDF file.
Difficulties in changing a default PDF Reader in Windows 10
To change Microsoft Edge PDF Reader with an alternative PDF reader app is not difficult. However, the problem is that a new default PDF viewer is usually replaced by Microsoft Edge after the installation of the latest Windows 10 updates, enabling of System Restore Point or System Recovery. The default apps may be changed if the update, recovery or another system’s modification causes changes in the UserChoice directory, which is why Windows 10 File association protection mechanism reverts back the changes to prevent unrecognized software from being launched by default.
