Issue: How to fix KB5011831 fails to install on Windows 10?
Hello, I have been trying to install KB5011831 but to no avail. The process simply freezes midway through the installation, only to return an error claiming that the update failed. Is there anything that can be done to fix this problem? Thanks for any tips provided.

Windows is operated as a service by Microsoft, which means that, as long as you purchased the operating system, you will be receiving regular updates. Some of the patches might be critical (usually related to a serious bug or security vulnerability)[1] – they are shipped out of the regular Patch Tuesday[2] cycle.
Outside of these, Microsoft would ship cumulative, feature, security, or regular updates for Windows. Each of these updates has a KB number which is meant for identification purposes. One of the most recent updates, KB5011831, was released in late April 2022, and, unfortunately, some users might fail to receive these due to various errors.

- If it is already running, right-click and select Restart
- if the service is not running, double-click it, select Automatic under the Startup type from the drop-down menu
- Click Start, Apply, and OK
- Use the same steps to (re)start Windows update service.
Fix 5. Consider updating manually
If updates fail to install via Microsoft service, you can try installing them yourself from Microsoft Update Catalog.
- Go to the official Microsoft Update Catalog website
- Type KB5011831 into the search bar and click Search
- You will find many different versions on the update – you need to find the one that matches your PC specs and Windows version (as a home user, ignore Windows server versions)
- Right-click on Start and pick System
- Under Device specifications, check the System type section: it should either be 64-bit or 32 bit
